... and what I did last Saturday. The silver GTO is me, the maroon 240SX is my son. We got to drift the road course at Atlanta Motor Speedway, which is a rare event; in addition to the media lot, which is done fairly often.
(11/6/2020 - Reposting one of my favorites, with my real name, in case this goes to hell and we cross paths again.)
I didn’t do too well on the road course. It is the hardest layout I’ve drifted. It looks very basic but every part of it has some challenges. I don’t think they’ve had a drift event on it since 2012 or 2013. I drifted it back then and did far worse. If I get another shot at it in 2027 I’ll bring a nastier set up.

Nicely done! you have a lot of trust in your son!
I’ve “drifted” a GTO before (read: 2nd gear donuts and figure 8's), they take some skill to keep sideways as they kinda want to understeer a bit with the stock suspension. What you’re doing in this video definitely takes skills. Well done sir!

Thanks. I drifted it stock for a couple years. It now has coil overs, a minor angle kit, and a welded diff. Th at helps. But i t’s still a challenge. The desire to understeer still hasn’t completely gone away.
The AC still works though . Drifting in the summer in Atlanta that turns out to be one of the most im p or tant features.

Awesome! I wondered about the angle kit. Back in the day my friend had an 06' goat and I had a 350Z, we’d go mess around in empty, wet parking lots (Seattle) and trade off cars. Driving the cars back to back was informative and super fun, the GTO had the power and I actually really liked the more stable nature that comes with the longer wheelbase, but you could definitely feel the extra weight in the nose.
(apologies if you’ve already seen this, i’m sure i’ve posted it all over oppo in the past 6 years)
